An Easter Message, 2010

By Caomhin

I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very Happy Easter.  I tend not to be preachy but I wanted to relate some of my feelings towards everyone.  First, let me preface this by saying that I am Catholic, and I am not as good a Catholic as I know I should be, but let’s face it, we are all sinners, and yet, God still loves us.  That, in and of itself is a miracle.

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that through Him all things are possible.  I believe in and support our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI.  I am sinner and God and His Church still loves me unconditionally.

I attended Catholic School for the first 8 years of my education, which required a tremendous sacrifice for my family to make for me, as well as my brother and sister.  I am in debt to them forever for making that sacrifice and I am truly grateful for the education that I received in Catholic School.  It has helped shape me as an individual and has prepared me well for life.

When you contemplate what Jesus did for the whole of humanity, not just some, but all of us, every single person who has ever lived, is living, or will ever live, it is truly a marvel.  He knew that pain and suffering that He would experience, He knew the brutality that He would suffer, a fate that no one would wish to undergo, and yet He chose that path in order to save us from sin, and from ourselves.

Today we celebrate a gift of love so great that it humble and amazes us.  We celebrate our Lord and our Church.  We celebrate each other and understand a little bit more, though not the true depths, of the blessings that He has bestowed upon us.  I say that because I know that the blessings we are given will never be fully understood until we are with Him in the next life.

I am grateful for many things in my life.  I am grateful for Marissa, for our daughter, Adara, who will be with us in just a few short weeks.  I am grateful for my family, and for my friends.  I am a sinner, I am not the best Catholic I should be, I should be a better person, and yet, to see what I have in my life, to know how much people love me and care for me, to see miracles like that everyday, how could I do anything but praise and thank God for all that he has done for me?

I have not talked in great depths of my faith on this site, as I typically utilize this site for political commentary for things that I feel strongly about.  However, I would be remiss to not talk about my feelings and faith on this day.  I firmly and solemnly believe in God, our Father, his son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  I firmly and solemnly believe in the Holy Catholic Church, led by our Pope, Benedict XVI.

As the saying goes, the Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.  I just want to be a better person and I try hard each day to achieve this goal.  I want to look back and know that I have done more good than bad.  I want to forgive more, and hopefully be forgiven.  Being a better person takes a lot of work, and I know most of the world’s problems would be alleviated if we could all just do that.  So I want to dedicate myself to being at least a little bit better.  If I fall, I know God will catch me if I let him.  He’s done it before and if I were a wiser person, I’d just let him do it every time.

So today, Easter, the day Jesus rose from the dead after suffering for our sins, I want to just be a little better, just like yesterday, and just like tomorrow.  But for today, as I always am on this day, I am in a bit more amazement as to how much God loves us.  To be blessed like I am knowing how fallible I am is simply incredible.  Happy Easter everyone!
